Norwegian hotel tycoon Arthur Buchardt thinks the new government headquarters in Oslo should be wooden.

Two months ago the world’s tallest wooden building was completed in Bergen. It is 51 metres tall, has 14 storeys and is a housing complex with apartments of different sizes.

Buchardt is known for having built some of the tallest buildings in Scandinavia. Now he is planning a 66 metre tall wooden building to be finished next spring. He thinks the government should go in the same direction.

“If the politicians had listened to themselves about the green shift, wooden government headquarters would be a fantastic signal. It is absolutely feasible,” Buchardt told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK.

So far, wood is not a research area for SFI CASA. If Buchardt’s proposal catches on, who knows…
